Buying a Home

If you plan to make an offer on a home, be prepared to give a binder or “earnest money” deposit to take the home off the market. If you plan to make credit, mortgage, insurance or utility arrangements on your next visit to the area, you will need the following items:

Social security numbers for all applicants.
Money for deposits (personal checks may or may not be accepted.
Bank addresses and phone numbers for all active accounts.
Charge accounts and their balance owed, names and addresses.
Checking, savings and investment account numbers and balances.
Information on mortgage lenders: balance due, names, addresses and phone numbers
Information regarding real estate holdings: location, the approximate current value, equity and tax information.
Face value, equity and premiums of life insurance policies.
Insurance policy numbers and company names, address and phone numbers
Employer's name, address, phone and the name of the contact person.

Moving Day CheckList *Just Prior to Moving*
		Notify the post office of your new address and fill out their change of address packet.
		Dispose of all flammables and drain lawn mowers of gasoline.
		Arrange to have all of your utility services disconnected.
		Cancel all home deliveries.
		Pick up items from the cleaners, shoe shop, tailor or seamstress. etc. so they are not forgotten.
		Empty, defrost and clean your freezer and refrigerator and then leave a deodorizer.
		Clean your range, oven, microwave and dishwasher.
		Pack a “survival kit” of items you will need while traveling and when you first arrive at your new home.
		Be certain to pack your Watson Relocation Package as it contains helpful information.
		Set packed suitcases and other things aside to pack in your car at the last minute.
		Confirm hotel reservations.
		Carry currency, jewelry, important documents and other valuables yourself or send by registered mail rather than packing these items on a moving van.
		Put your Watson Relocation Package in your car in a spot where you can refer to it on your trip. You will find it to be enjoyable and informative. It will also save you many steps upon your arrival.
		Double check closets, shelves, drawers, in corners and along baseboards to be sure nothing is left behind.
		Make certain all doors and windows are well-locked and lights are out.
		Remember to leave the keys to your old property with your Realtor or a neighbor for the next owner.

*When You Arrive*
		Make sure your appliances are properly installed and functioning as they should.
		Confirm that all utilities are on and operating adequately.
		Arrange for telephone service if this was not done prior to the move. If phone service is on, check each phone jack to assure that it works
		As soon as possible, open checking and savings accounts, apply for locally-based charge cards and get a safety deposit box for your valuables.
		Arrange to start up home deliveries.
		Remember to wait 24 hours after moving to turn on your television sets as they need to settle and adjust to temperature differences.
		Relax and enjoy your new home.
		As soon as you can, start driving around and explore the wonderful things Central Florida has to offer.
